National World Language Honor Societies




Requirements for Nomination

In order to be eligible for admittance…

• Students must currently be enrolled in a level 3, 4, or 5 honors language course.
• Students must have achieved a grade of an ‘A’ for the first and second marking periods of the current school year in the language.
• Students must have achieved a grade of an ‘A’ in the previous year’s language course.
• Students must have achieved and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 in all their courses.

In order to remain in the Honor Society…

• Students must continue studying the language throughout high school.
• Students in their Junior year must maintain an ‘A’ average in the language for the year and achieve an overall ‘B’ average.
o Each member’s grades will be assessed at the end of the first semester. A warning letter will be sent, and the student will be ‘on probation’ if the student’s average in the World Language class falls below an ‘A’ or the overall average falls below a ‘B’.
o By the end of the second semester, the student’s final grade for the year must be an ‘A’ and the overall average must be a ‘B’ in order to remain in the Honor Society.
• Students in their Senior year must maintain an ‘A’ average in the language and achieve an overall ‘B’ average.
o Each senior member’s grades will be assessed at the end of the first marking period. A warning letter will be sent, and the student will be ‘on probation’ if the student’s average in the World Language class falls below an ‘A’ or the overall average falls below a ‘B’.
o Grades will be reassessed at the end of the first semester and again at the end of the third marking period. If the student fails to maintain an ‘A’ average in the language and achieve an overall ‘B’ average, membership in Honor Society will be revoked.
• A member may be removed from Honor Society for misconduct, insubordination or other serious infraction of school rules.
